the why!
The O7C is all about highlighting, showcasing, and promoting the talent that is in Ohio! In 2024, the Ohio High School Athletic Association changed the rule that barred Ohio athletes from playing 7on7 without penalty. This rule change gives Ohio student-athletes an opportunity to compete year-round in the game of football, developing their skillsets and knowledge of the game.
Playing 7-on-7 football offers numerous benefits for kids, both physically and mentally.
Skill Development: With fewer players on the field, kids have more opportunities to practice individual skills such as passing, catching, route running, and defensive maneuvers. This can enhance their overall football abilities.
Teamwork and Communication: Players must work together more closely in a smaller team setting, which fosters communication and collaboration. This teaches kids the importance of teamwork and how to effectively work with others.
Game Understanding: 7-on-7 encourages players to develop a better understanding of offensive and defensive strategies, as it allows them to focus on formations, plays, and concepts without being overwhelmed by the larger number of players on the field.
Conditioning and Agility: The fast-paced nature of 7-on-7 football requires players to stay in shape, improving their conditioning, speed, and agility. This can have benefits beyond football, promoting overall fitness.
Recruitment Opportunities: For older youth, particularly high school players, 7-on-7 leagues and tournaments can provide exposure to college scouts and coaches, potentially opening doors for scholarships and athletic opportunities.
